Taiwan's FET to Postpone WiMAX Service until 2H 2009
September 19, 2008
Taiwanese FET (Far EasTone Telecommunications) recently confirmed that the company will postpone the commercialization of its WiMAX service until the second half of 2009, Commercial Times of Taiwan reported on September 18.

Under the original terms of the tender stipulated by Taiwan's NCC (National Communications Commission), the six WiMAX licensees - including FET, First International Telecom, Global Mobile, Tatung Telecom, Vastar Cable TV, and Vmax Telecom - are required to launch their WiMAX services by March 2009 at the latest, according to the same source. The NCC, however, stated that it would not immediately revoke the operating licenses if said licensees fail to meet the deadline. Delivery of services can be postponed for one more year until March 2010 on request for extension.
